Blue Fishing Boats, Na Trang

Description

I was fascinated by these fishing boats, largely because all of them were blue AND had red flags. I took this in Na Trang, Vietnam, an hour or so of my backpack being stolen. I was bitter, but then found this amazing view of the boats, water, and sand. It was at the TET holiday, with explains all the flags.

The colors and composition, including the figure in the foreground, remind me a lot of some of Monet's paintings. I'm sure he would have loved to paint these boats.

First of all, I love that beach head. Colors, setting, everything is just cool about it. Especially with that dude and his dog. Priceless. The way the water weaves through the composition is nice, and I love the juxtaposition of the boats versus the buildings on the left. A really great composition. And you're right about the red and blue of the boats looks pretty good in contrast with the rest of the picture. My only beef is with the horizon line. I think it's a bit crooked, and the only thing that is transitioning between the foreground and background is that pole. There is something about everything meeting in one place that isn't working with me. I wonder if you blurred the background a little more, and upped the contrast, maybe would help? Although... on the other hand, it kinda reminds me of Cezanne's Mont Sainte-Victoire because of that lone mountain peeking up above everything else, and the kind of flattening effect I'm getting from the photograph. I guess you could go with that if you wanted <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/> Overall, I really like it, so good job.
